seed phrase

A seed phrase is a list of usually 12 or 24 random words that serve as a master key to access your cryptocurrency wallet. Anyone with your seed phrase can access and transfer all the cryptocurrency in that wallet. Seed phrases are critical backup tools, and you should store them securely and never share them.

In practice

You create a new cryptocurrency wallet, and the software gives you a seed phrase like 'apple banana cherry dog eagle forest guitar house island jungle keyboard lemon.' You write this down and store it in a safe place. If your computer crashes or you lose access to your wallet, you can use this seed phrase to recover all your cryptocurrency on any device.
