Trading volume is the total number of shares or contracts bought and sold for a security during a specific time period, usually measured daily. Higher volume means more investors are buying and selling. Volume can indicate how much interest investors have in a particular security.
On Monday, Apple stock might have a trading volume of 50 million shares, while a smaller company stock might have only 500,000 shares traded. The high volume for Apple shows many investors are actively buying and selling it that day.
